Day In The Life Of.....

Jheeze... what a night. Having too keep random drunk people you met at a party alive by holding their head up doesn't sound as much fun as you think. Lets listen to some calming music.... Paramore... nope... ACDC.... nope.... The Blackout... definately not. Ooooh You Me At Six. Hmmm, calming song.... oooh Always Attract, one of the best tunes of the Noughties. Right now, figure out what I'm going to do today. Okay, tonight I've got my shift at The Boars Head Pub, working behind the bar with my Dad and Brother.. (yeah okay it's not great pay but free drinks and great gossip). The time now is... 12:02pm, not bad, not bad, still got most of the day. Maybe I'll check see what my mates are up too, i'll just drop them a quick text on my Blackberry, sad to say it's one of my best friends, technologically (if that's a word);

Guys, what's going on today? Anything happening? xx

And now, time to get changed....
Right, into the cupboard we go. T-Shirt? Too slouchy. Tank Top? Way too cold. Hoodie? Too trampy. Hmmm, right checked shirt it is, my "spiderman" one? Yeah think so. Blue tank top underneath a red and blue checked shirt? Sounds nice :) now just a pair of dark blue skinny jeans and we're almost ready. Bit of mascara, Maybelline Bold Curl? Hell yes. Light cover of foundation, don't want to look like one of Willy Wonka's rejects. And now to meet my good old friend, GHD. I literally don't think I could live without them, my hair decides to become an afro when I wash it. *5 minutes later* all done, check phone. Nothing just yet. Damn it, why aren't they awake yet!? Downstairs here we come. Of course as soon as I walk halfway down the stairs, I realise my muted TV and iPod are still playing, must be eco-friendly and turn off. All done, and again, another descent down the stairs.

Morning to you too Brother, one too many drinks? Again. Not that I can really judge. But it's not like I go out every single night to get absolutely rat-arsed is it? By the time I reached the kitchen a breeze sent the smell of burnt toast straight up my nostrils. Nice. Anyway, mother is out at Sainsbury's, Brother is attempting to sober up, and me? Well I'm going to pour myself a nice bowl of Nesquik. 18 and still loving a 6 year old cereal? Its legendary. Could be up there with Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. Okay maybe a bit too far. While munching through my cereal a text has been received...

Sorry man, just woke up :) come round mine? We can do a bit of shopping in ktown? xx

I do love my best friend Amy. She's more of a legend than Nesquik is, and that's saying something. Shopping? Sounds good, Christmas money and the sales are on. Wicked.

Sounds good, i'll be up at yours in about half an hour? Oh and by the way, I need to talk to you about last night. Some rumours going round about you I need confirming, if you remember that is haha ;) xx

Okay day is officially sorted. Now where have I put my car keys? Crap, upstairs in my bag. I really hate it when that happens. Okay yeah fair enough it's only upstairs, but you know, I've just come down from there, it's not like I want to walk all the way back up there again, just to come downstairs. Might as well start the trek now....Left pocket. Nope, right pocket. Got 'em. Got front door keys, out the door and into my brand-spanking-new Ford KA. Girly but still a great little speedster. Time to drive.

Despite driving for around 6 months, I still feel the grown-up tingle in the pitt of my stomach - the one which alarms me that I'm about to get in a metal box that frankly, could be my coffin, and the one that shouts "YOU'RE GROWING UP!!" It's scary man. The drive to Amy's house is actually quite lovely. The back roads are green and full of tree's, and then the drive over Epsom Downs, at night it's even better. But lets not turn into an author here, anyway just picked Amy up, time for K-Town.

After a long day of sweaty people shoving me to get past to clothes in Primark, we're going for some munch in McDonald's and then heading home. Ahhh Chicken Legend with Salsa, my old friend. After eating, Amy and I sat on our benched seats in Kingston McDonald's looking through what we've bought. I always seem too forget what I've bought, and then have a pleasant surprise when I realise I do actually like what I've bought. More checked shirts (that my mum always shouts at me because they're a pain in the butt for ironing and yes she still does my ironing), some banging Skullcandy headphones, lime green over ear Winter '09 design. They're sick headphones, so loud you can barely hear yourself think! 2 pairs of skinny jeans, a new Blackberry phone cover and a iPod connector for my stereo in my car. Cannot wait to get this baby going in my car. After a catch-up with Charlie, my friend from primary school, who I bumped into on the high street in Kingston, Amy and I headed home. We had a little gossip about the night before, and got some things cleared up with her while while listening to Joe Brooks and Paramore on the way home, finally getting to her house, said our goodbye's and I went home myself. Quick cuddle with my Springer Spaniel and then time for a shower before my shift.

After a relaxing shower, I straightened my hair and got into my work clothes and set off to work. 6 whole hours of standing behind a bar talking to customers who have nothing better to do on a Saturday night than ramble on about their depressing lives and children who have moved on to University to start a new life. Anyway, my shift dragged on but at least I got to talk to my Dad and catch-up with my brother, who I barely see anymore because he's either at Uni or out socializing. At 12, I finished my shift and decided to go home. I could have stayed for a couple of drinks but frankly I'm shattered, I would like to wrap up in my bed and sleep til next year right now. Getting home was a long journey, but that's because my car decided to have a strop and break down on the A24. After shouting and hitting the steering wheel with my fist a couple of times, it worked again. Whoever said aggression never got you anywhere was clearly wrong.

As I opened the front door, I was approached by my mother asking how my day was and if I wanted any food. Not wanting to be rude, I talked to her for half an hour and cooked myself a spaghetti carbonara, I love that stuff. I trekked all the way upstairs and changed into my pajamas's (which consist of a Batman top and little black PJ shorts), quickly logged onto my laptop to check Facebook, once again absolutely nothing interesting happened while I was out and then I turned it off and turned on my TV. Watched a bit of Family Guy (the one where Brian is erotically charged and chases after a racing hound and impregnates her, doesn't sound funny but it really was.) By 2am I decided my bed was calling for me, so I clambered into bed, tripping over my phone charger on the way and standing on it, plug facing upwards (that really has to be one of the most painful things in the entire world) and snuggled into my duvet. Best feeling in the world, getting into a clean bed with crisp sheets. Ahh sleep at last....

Quick analysis of 2 magazines which influence your magazine - NME.

- Mainstream Rock, Punk, Pop, Indie, Metal
- Owner: Kinn up until 1963, taken over by IPC from 1963 til present day
- Masthead: NME
- Price: £2.30
- House Style: Slightly darker colours, blacks, greys, whites, reds and sometimes yellows.
- Advertising Portfolio: Free CD's, posters, festival guides.
- Frequency: Weekly

NME's first issue was published on 7th March, 1952, after Musical Express and Accordion Weekly was bought by London music promoter Maurice Kinn, and relaunched as New Musical Express. It was initially published in a non-glossy tabloid format on standard newsprint. Throughout the 60's and 70's, it went through a pop-rock stage. This is something my magazine will feature. In the 80's, there was a near-closing phase, where the new editor Ian Pye wanted to write about hip-hop, and some wanted to continue writing about rock. In the 90's, NME started to feature British indie bands - This is anothe feature my magazine will copy, because it won't just feature on one genre of music, it will have many different genres.

Font size and style:
The font used is bold and eye catching. Its written in a plain font, which tells the audience that it is knowledgable and relatively serious, however it isn't boring. The masthead isn't the largest font on the front cover of any of the front covers, which suggests that the magazine cares more about the featuring artists/band news then the magazine itself, this reflects in the target audiences age, because it is more mature.

Tone:
The tone used by the magazine is quite friendly, however its very informative because it tells the reader about the artist/bands, and new information about events or latest hangouts.

Images:
The images taken aren't paparazzi like. They're taken with comfort. They're posed and to get these pictures, the magazine would have to be relatively friendly with the artist/band. This is once again proved by the content of the magazine. This all fits into the feel of the magazine, a generally friendly, yet informative, magazine.

Quick analysis of 2 magazines which influence your magazine - Kerrang.

- Rock, goth, metal, punk, thrash, classic indie, unsigned bands.
- Owner: United Newspapers sold to Emap in 1991, Emap sold to Bauer Media Group in 2008.
- Masthead: KERRANG!
- Puff: Used to be "Music With Attitude", no such strapline since.
- Price: £2.20
- House style: dark colours - grey, black, white. some yellows to highlight puffs.
- Advertising Portfolio: free posters/stickers
- Frequency: weekly

Kerrang! has influenced my magazine because it features music that I like, and I will include that my mag. From Kerrang! I will probably copy the advertising portfolio and the price. However Kerrang! is mostly American based, I will feature British artists that are in Kerrang! such as;
You Me At Six, Bring Me The Horizon etc. But it may occasionally feature an American band or two.

Kerrang! commenced publication on 7th June 1981. It first focused on the genre New Wave of British Heavy Metal . It features many hard rock acts as well as alternative rock, pop-rock and generally just most rock genres. It was first owned by United Newspapers, who sold to EMAP in 1991. In 2008, EMAP then sold Kerrang! to Bauer Media Group.

Main Cover Shot:
The main cover shot is always a close up or mid shot of an artist/band. Either performing at a gig or a studio shot, which suggest that the magazine is quite friendly with the artist, and follows wherever they may go. The gig shot suggests reflects with the reader of the magazine because it shows that the audience follows the artist/band and is a fan of them and their work.

Language:
The language that is used in Kerrang! is always friendly. The interviews are always friendly and are as if the reader is interviewing the artist/band. My magazine would feature this type of language because its friendly and because the author writes as if they were the reader. It shows real passion for the magazine, which hopefully my magazine would feature as well.

Task One - Introduction To My Magazine

Introduce yourself in your blog and include a brief summary of your magazine and your target audience

Hello, my name is Hannah Johnson and my music magazine is based on British bands/artists.
This is an introduction to my magazine "The Jam". The target audience is aged 16 to 24 years old. This magazine isn't specifically aimed at any gender.

The aim of my magazine is to let everyone know about the British artists/bands, the world has not been properly introduced into an all genre British magazine yet, it is a specialist magazine. The only competitor that I know of is NME, but thats specifically genred.

My magazine is a monthly magazine, and its cost would be £1.50.
